The term "chillwave" has gotten a bad rap, in part because it's so vague. But the style's know-it-when-you-hear-it essence shines through on the debut LP from Florida's Millionyoung, a solo producer who manages a sound like an entire Club Med colony singing in harmony beneath palm fronds strung with streamers and disco balls. His pop hooks triangulate New Order, Phoenix and M83, with pumping disco rhythms suffused in oodles of reverb and weightless keyboards. It's hardly an original sound, but in this case, familiarity breeds contentment.
