Biography

If you thought Jungle was just a bastard son of Techno, prepare to think again. Turntablists Ming & FS come straight out of the NY school of hip-hop Jungle, a far cry from Photek's abstract breakbeats or Trace's dark-and-nasty Techstep. The breakbeats are lightning-quick and hard hitting. The basslines, rather than rolling in like tsunamis, stomp right along with the beat, pulling the groove as tight as a drive belt. Itchy wah-wah guitar samples tick along, building the intensity. But when Ming & FS mix in Wu-Tang, they knock out the Jungle beat entirely for a chorus and a verse, only to knock it back in just as unexpectedly. The samples will remind you where this music comes from -- they're all taken from Dancehall reggae and Old School Rap. To smooth things out, Ming & FS remix the Fugees, sending a message loud and clear: Jungle ain't just for tweaked-out ravers.
