Mocky recorded Saskamodie in a Paris studio famously used by Serge Gainsbourg and Nina Simone, and its hushed, acoustic textures live up to the legacy. Recorded with the help of friends Feist, Jamie Lidell and Taylor Savvy, the album is a kind of love letter to '60s lounge pop, flush with animated string arrangements and fringed with a loose weave of bells and acoustic percussion. As vocalists sing nonsense syllables and whistling carries the melody of "Birds of a Feather," it's an open-ended collaboration whose catchiness invites everyone to join in.
