Isn't Anything
My Bloody Valentine
Released:
Jan 1988
Label:
Creation Records
My Bloody Valentine's second LP seemed to arrive out of nowhere in 1988, creating a form of guitar pop that held distant echoes of the Velvet Underground and the Jesus and Mary Chain, yet still seemed to have little-to-no predecessors. On prior EPs, the band had already proved they could do jangling indie pop to perfection, but here they artfully half-bury their songs, bend and twist notes and play with tempo and mood, going from fragile to blistering within a few bars. Chalk it up to drugs or genius (or both) but this and Loveless would become the defining albums of the shoegazer scene.
