The one-two punch that opens Circuital is worth the price of admission. "Victory Dance" burns at a slow, steady pace before building into a psychedelic groover that nearly explodes at song's end; this leads to the title track, which gallantly struts its way through mystic drones and killer guitar. But there's also "Holdin' On to Black Metal," a weirdo slice of soul-pop with a female choir, horns and Lucifer references; the folksy simplicity of "Wonderful (The Way I Feel)"; and finally, the wistful closer "Movin' Away," which has the power to bring Jim James right into your living room.
