Biography

Despite having hits in their homeland in the early '70s, it wasn't until 1975 that this Scottish hard rock band became known in the U.S. and around the world on the strength of its sixth album, Hair of the Dog. The release put them on the charts with the title cut and a cover of Boudleaux Bryant's "Love Hurts," which they remain most famous for today. An astonishing number of live, studio and compilation albums followed well into the '00s, but the band never again made it onto the charts stateside. With Zeppelin-influenced guitars and the gritty, highly distinctive vocals of Dan McCafferty, "Hair of the Dog" -- marked by prominent cowbell and the unforgettable "Now you're messing with a son of a bitch" chorus -- has been in perpetual rotation on classic rock radio since it first surfaced, and will likely remain there.
