Are You Passionate?
by Neil Young
Released: Apr 2002
Wherein gruff old Neil tries a little tenderness: Backed by Booker T. and the MG's, our hero is in full-blown Stax loverman mode here, sweetly crooning stuff like "Hey babe/ Don't count me out/ I still got a lot to give/ Stick around and find out" over light, leisurely soul shuffles. (Make that "sweetly" and "crooning," but he does his best.) Two very notable exceptions: The thunderous post-9/11 rager "Let's Roll" and the lengthy Crazy Horse ramble "Goin' Home." But otherwise, this one's for the lovers, who are liable to find, say, "When I Hold You in My Arms" as convincing as it is disarming.
