Year Of The Horse by Neil Young
Released: Jun 1997
Label: Reprise
Though Year of the Horse shares a name and a release year (1997) with the Jim Jarmusch documentary, strictly speaking it isn't the soundtrack. Rather, it serves as something of a tribute to the great David Briggs, Neil Young's longtime friend and producer who died two years earlier. Compared to previous live sets featuring Crazy Horse (Live Rust and Weld namely), it's significantly more moody and introspective. Not only that, it contains many of Briggs' personal favorites, among them "When You Dance," "Danger Bird" and always strangely touching "Pocahontas."
