It wasn't just rock 'n' roll that New Grass Revival were mixing into their sound. While the group does cover Leon Russell and Dillard and Clark on this live album from 1977, it's the ensemble's fiery playing that explains what progressive bluegrass was all about back then. N.G.R. were helping transform the music into something more like post-bop jazz, where tunes merely serve as platforms for extended improvising. Indeed, Too Late to Turn Back Now contains no less than three eight-minute jams.
