The only thing one needs to know about '80s power metal nutjobs NITRO is that their 1989 album O.F.R. (which stands for "Out F*cking Rageous") is highlighted by a 32 second scream from singer James Gillette. The scream stands as the longest scream in the history of music. On top of that, legend has it that Gillette broke no less than three champagne glasses with his voice at their first live appearance. Musically the band set out to play the fastest, most over-the-top brand of metal the world had ever heard. For better or worse, they succeeded. With hilariously fast solos, backing vocals that take Queen's angelic horde into over-overkill territory and the requisite cartoon-level macho strut, NITRO, while anything but well-known, remain the most unique and far out band of the whole hair metal epidemic.
