This vaunted project from legendary DJs Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez and Lil’ Louis Vega (aka Masters at Work) doesn’t so much rework Latin, jazz, house and other electronic genres as draw a spider’s web of connections between them. The album flows almost like a continuous mix, with beats licked with acid jazz, lounge, son and disco and live grooves provided by the likes of Tito Puente, Salsoul Orchestra and salsa star India (Vega’s wife). It’s the natural heir to the vibrant Latin soul and salsa scene of the ‘60s and ‘70s -- and a vibrant contribution to electronic/DJ and urban music.
