Lousy With Sylvianbriar

Lousy With Sylvianbriar by Of Montreal
Released: Oct 2013
Label: Polyvinyl Records
After several experiments in frantic funk and electro-prog, this is where Of Montreal becomes a psychedelic rock band again. It's remarkably "normal," from the uncluttered album art to the spare music, often featuring live acoustic instruments and Kevin Barnes' typically acid-soaked harmonies. "Obsidian Currents" is a particularly compelling piece of mournful hippie-soul, while "Colossus" takes its pensive guitar splashes from Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth," before telling the tragedy of a pregnant mother who committed suicide. A bad trip for sure -- one you can't look away from.
