Olga Tanon has already established that her big, bold voice is capable of much more than the treacly ballads that powerhouses often get pushed into, and she drives the point home here. Her throaty vocals can seriously move, through salsa, merengue, even cumbia. But Tanon also pulls off a nearly impossible feat: ballads that scale emotional heights, yet avoid overly sentimental, Celine Dion-ish schlock. The title track, for instance, a duet with Camila's Samo, pulls off high drama (Swelling strings! Sobbing melismas! Shifting meters!) without feeling (too) forced.
