Cuban pianist Omar Sosa is a vibrant and stunning pianist who fearlessly combines Afro-Cuban Jazz with Afro-Latin folklore, hardcore jazz improvisation, hip-hop, and anything else that strikes his fancy. Educated in Cuba where he played with Xiomara Laugart, Sosa relocated to Ecuador and later to San Francisco. With intense energy and religious devotion, he dedicated himself to expanding his musical horizons. He earned a reputation for his incendiary improvisations and enigmatic presence playing with Salsa bands and jazz musicians. His recordings present a unique vision and showcase Monk-like phrasing, a deeply rhythmic sophistication and a gentle lyricism. Working with scores of top-notch musicians on his recordings, including percussion virtuosos Pancho Quinto, John Santos and Orestes Vilato and rapper Will Power, Sosa delivers a multicultural tour de force that emanates from his Cuban roots.
