Biography
One of the most influential English composers of sacred music in the early seventeenth century, Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625) wrote popular Anglican services, many dramatic and expressive anthems, and scores of instrumental music. Of late, Gibbons' reputation has been bolstered by being declared the favorite composer of Canadian piano virtuoso Glenn Gould.
