Swiss horn player Erik Truffaz has long mixed his (perfectly understandable) fixation with acoustic-era Miles Davis with moody and unsettling electronics. On Our Theory, Truffaz is joined by Swedish saxophonist/electronic experimenter Ilhan Ersahin. The end result is a stunner, combining post-bop and free jazz with alternately warm and cold washes of electronic sound. Some of the pieces are more challenging than Ersahin's breakthrough work with Wax Poetic, but this is still strongly recommended for fans of adventurous music of any and all stripes -- genres and labels be damned.
