Idlewild
Outkast
Released:

Laface Records
From the bluesy transcendentalism of "Idlewild Blues" to the swing-hop hybrid "Mighty O" to the Princely "N2U," Outkast once again play 52-card pick up with the past century of African American music. At its core, Idlewild is an elegy disguised as a party. The aforementioned "Idlewild Blues," the haunting "Mutron Angel" and "Hollywood Divorce" all have a marked post-Katrina vibe. There's nothing on here as catchy or universal as "Hey Ya," but otherwise Idlewild is another beautiful mess from hip-hop's most creative and restless duo.
