I Hear Black
Overkill
Released:
Feb 1993
Label:
Atlantic Records
I Hear Black is a slower tempo grinder indicative of the tack Overkill took after 1991's Horrorscope -- specifically a more deliberate, darker sound. The title cut and "Feed My Head" practically sound like Pantera, and the overall chug of the guitars is a major draw. These days, the New Jersey-bred thrash band may not have the name recognition of Metallica but they were an important cog in the scene's wheel way back when. That said, I Hear Black almost fits in now, with the millennial resurgence of all things metal, better than it did when it appeared in 1993.
