Known only for the lite rock of “Jackie Blue,” Ozark Mountain Daredevils were far more of a true country rock band than that song suggests. Released in 1974, at the height of the LA cowboy era, Ozark has none of the polish, or even rock moves, of the Eagles or any of their contemporaries. Sure “Spaceship Onion” sounds like a Bread song, but “If You Wanna Get To Heaven” has one of the all-time great choogles (read “groove”), and “Chicken Train” rides a Jew’s harp riff for crying out loud. They also sing about rivers.
