Pat McGee Band
Must Have Been Love (Single)
Rising plain-guy stars from Richmond, Va., the Pat McGee Band specialize in a brand of feel-good rock that circulates widely in college towns across the Southeast. McGee sings in a light, casual voice somewhat reminiscent of Bruce Hornsby's, delivering vague (though generally positive) lyrics and pleasantly anonymous melodies. Percussion and mandolin augment the band's basic acoustic guitar rock accompaniments, and it all goes down smoothly, if not necessarily with a lot of flavor. But like the mid-priced domestic beers that sell abundantly at the band's frequent live shows, there's something intangible about the group's music that's kept folks coming back for more -- a reality attested to by the group's continually growing fan base.
