No longer code-named Julian Plenti, Paul Banks hides under no moniker on Banks and sounds ever calmer for it. But it doesn't mean he's emerged from the cave his eerie monotone seems to resonate from: "I know what's coming for me in the dark," he coolly croons. He still finds comfort in moody, minor-key melodies, but experiments here with stacked guitar loops, lush strings, vocal samples ("Arise, Awake," "Another Chance"), post-rock builds ("Lisbon"), funky rhythms ("Young Again") and doses of dry wit ("I'll Sue You"). He saves the most Interpol-like tune for the great "Summertime Is Coming."
