Greatest Hits collects most of Paul Davis' mild-mannered hits (mega-jammer "I Go Crazy" included) between 1972 and 1980. Davis, like Kenny Loggins, bridged denim-clad country rock and disco-informed soft rock. In fact, if this disc was sequenced chronologically, it would mirror the evolution of California pop music in the '70s. The early stuff ("Ride 'Em Cowboy") is earthy and acoustic, while the latter singles groove like the neo-Steely Dan lite funk that they are.
