NEW is Paul McCartney's stab at indie pop. The move makes total sense. After all, he innovated many of the recombinant-style songwriting tactics that indie kids nowadays employ wholesale. In this sense the album is a pastiche of a pastiche of a pastiche! The best example of this is the title track, which sounds like McCartney backed by The Apples In Stereo collapsing "For No One" into "Got To Get You Into My Life" into The Beach Boys' Smile. The youthfulness infusing both "Looking at Her" and "Appreciate" is even more over the top, with their electronica palettes and all around club savvy.
