The Who's 1979 rock opera Quadrophenia is about a working class, pill-popping, scooter-tinkering nutter, Jimmy the mod, who spends sleepless weekends dancing to northern soul and fighting leather clad teddy boys on the beaches of Brighton, England. Pearl Jam's robust rendition of the protagonist's anthem is fittingly strapping and powerful, contrasting pacific piano lines against Eddie Vedder's howling choruses, channeling the original song's tortured teenage temper tantrum.
