First Daze Here: The Vintage Collection
Released: Feb 2002
Label: Relapse Records
This first installment in Relapse Record's two-album series focusing on Pentagram's revelatory '70s material opens with the incredibly prescient "Forever My Queen." Active since 1971, Pentagram were the first ever band to play what is now known as doom metal, and these recordings reveal a band following its own muse of heaviness. At times (in the main riffs of "Review Your Choices" and especially "When the Screams Come") it's tough to figure out if ZZ Top were an influence on Pentagram or if Pentagram were an influence on ZZ Top.
