Back in the 1970s, the ever-experimental, eternally cheeky Paul McCartney created the Thrillington persona and turned his second solo album, Ram, into the kind of lush orchestral pop that used to play in finer elevators, hotel lobbies and shopping emporiums. As with Macca's cutting-edge interest in lo-fi recording, solo multitracking and shaggy sheepdogs, 1970s rockers and bearded critics didn't initially understand the Thrillington project. Today, the album offers a fun listening experience for open-minded souls, easy-listening enthusiasts and Love Boat nostalgics.
