There's a cool, diaphanous quality to tracks "A Little Soul," "The Boss" and "For the People." They slink in the background, dripping piano keys over starkly simple drum patterns, exerting themselves only for the occasional horn stab or a fragment of jittery, sampled dialogue. The album is mostly instrumental, but the occasional emcee track ("To My Advantage," "Mind Frame") pulls the listener out of the somnambulist daze. Hip-hop's premier soul brother does not disappoint on his BBE Beat Series offering.
