Released:
Label: Smithsonian Folkways Recordings
Between battling the forces of fascism and fuming over Dylan's embrace of electricity, the always-prolific Pete Seeger actually had time to record an album of holiday carols. With just a banjo and a guitar, the folk icon strips these tunes of all ornamentation. And even though Seeger isn't known as a particularly graceful singer, "Glory to the New Born King" is quite stunning, especially when he drifts into his falsetto for the fantastic line, "Mary, what you going to name that pretty little baby?"
