Fingerprints veers dangerously close to smooth jazz at times. In fact, this all-instrumental album really is just smooth jazz. But throughout, you have Peter Frampton -- who has rock music in his hair, not to mention his blood -- playing guitar. People forget the dude is an absolute killing machine; they just hear the talk box song ("Do You Feel Like We Do") and remember that Frampton was one of the premier guitar players of his generation. So when he busts out the talk box here, for "Black Hole Sun," it's like finding an old friend.
