Released: Oct 2012
Label: Photek Productions
Photek made some of the U.K.'s most scene-defining drum and bass, took a left turn into deep house and then disappeared off to Los Angeles; five years after his last album, he returns, apparently re-energized by contemporary bass music. When it comes to sound design, his time in Hollywood has served him well; he brandishes flashier synths and boomier drums than anyone, exacting ample drama from ethno-infused dubstep and sweeping house ballads. "Shape Charge" loops back to his pioneering d'n'b sound, but he's more stylistically voracious than ever, moving from slow-mo acid to steely techno.
