Released:
Label: Temporary Residence Ltd.
Rob Crow and Zach Smith have always made such warm and cozy music; even when they sing lines like "You look like such a dick sometimes" (on "True North"), it still sounds so... inviting. So Pinback's fifth album is a lot like cuddling up with your favorite worn blanket on a chilly night. Their formula hasn't changed much -- lullaby-esque harmonies built upon propulsive beats and endless layers of acoustic guitar, bass and piano -- but it's all so effortlessly constructed. Still, there's a ton of pathos ingrained in every song -- they even sound a little like Simon & Garfunkel on "Diminished."
