Razed to the Ground

Razed to the Ground by Pinkish Black
Released: Sep 2013
Label: Century Media
This Texas twosome makes their synthesized ambient goth-metal sans guitars, but you'd never know it. On paper they suggest ancient experimentalists like Suicide or Throbbing Gristle, but in practice they drone closer to the hipster-friendly metalgazzzzze of Deafheaven and Liturgy, their vague murmuring curling into occasional Ian Curtis croons. In "Bad Dreamer," Lurch from The Addams Family seemingly gets hired to pound funeral-parlor piano, until things slow to a Swans horror crawl. "Loss of Feeling of Loss" takes in satellite sci-fi and desert blues, then ends with a hidden keyboard coda.
