The music used in Herzog's 1982 film was taken from the Popol Vuh albums Die Nacht der Seele and Sei still, wisse ich bin, Verdi's Ernani, Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, and Puccini's La Boheme, among other operatic pieces. The movie is about an Irishman obsessed with the idea of bringing opera to the Peruvian jungle, and famously features a steamship physically pulled over a mountain. Herzog's mirroring of that irrational behavior by actually pulling a ship over a mountain is captured in the documentary Burden of Dreams.
