When talking about the late '80s interface between rave culture and Brit pop, the usual suspects are Happy Mondays, Primal Scream, Stone Roses, Charlatans UK, etc. But let's not overlook this weird little gem from Psychic TV. Who knows why Genesis decided to make a catchy synth-pop album, but Psychic TV pulled it off fabulously. Allegory and Self is a deft balance of the band's usual neo-industrial weirdness, Moroder-inspired club grooves and classic British Invasion hooks. Job well done, boys.
