Love In Stereo
Released: Oct 1999
One of the more overlooked albums from the late-'90s halcyon days of neo-soul, Stereo retains that genre's organic goodliness without falling prey to its gooey sloppiness. Much of Patterson's vocal phrasing feels like a cross between D'Angelo and Stevie Wonder (not a bad thing!), and sultry jams "It Ain't Love" and "It's Alright Now" are pure baby-making music. This album also features production from a then-unknown Van Hunt, who would build off the template created on Stereo for his excellent solo albums.
