This is the second installment of re-recordings of songs from the breadth of his career, featuring Newman alone at a piano. Delving deeper into his catalog than Vol. 1, Vol. 2 has almost nothing casual fans will recognize, but that just means beginners have a lot of new material in store for them. For longtime fans, it's as if you're hanging out in Newman's house and he's just playing some of his songs. A consummate arranger and peerless songwriter, Newman shows here that the arrangements of his songs, while uniformly great, are almost unnecessary.
