by Ray Brown
Released: Nov 1956
Label: Verve Records
Ray Brown's warm, spacious bass playing added a different dimension to East Coast be-bop, but for his first solo set, Brown goes west for a session with many of Los Angeles' cool jazz stars. Arranger Marty Paich gives plenty of space for Brown's bass, but there is plenty of solo room for Jimmy Giuffre, Sweets Edison, Jimmy Rowles and Pete Candoli on an inviting mix of small group ballads and driving big band style swing.
