The problem with Rebecca Ferguson's debut isn't her talent -- she has a powerfully husky voice inspired by Aretha Franklin -- but her chosen terrain. The soul-pop diva class headed by Adele has grown mighty crowded, and it's difficult to see how this second-place winner of Britain's "The X-Factor" can stand out. In this context, "Too Good to Lose's" synthesized arrangements hold potential, as does the light disco beat of "Run Free." It's nice to hear Ferguson sashaying and handclapping over beats like "Backtrack" and shake off the retro cobwebs that linger over too much of Heaven.
