Before Red Red Meat started tinkering with electronics and tape loops, they were just a sloppy indie-rock band - but a damn good one. Channeling both the Stones and Sebadoh, 1994's Jimmywine Majestic is all about grainy mountain jams and plaintive balladry, especially the tracks "Flank" and "Rusted Water." At the same time, the band is preoccupied with feedback-as-texture and negative space far more than your local blues-rockers. In other words, there's an art to their muck.
