Three years after The Dance Paradox, his debut album, the masked producer Redshape returns with another LP that attempts to reconcile headphone living with dancefloor epiphanies. While he built his reputation on steely, Detroit-inspired techno, he slows down here, preferring tentative, intricate rhythms to four-to-the-floor force, and favoring shadows over strobe lights. Minor keys and velvety textures predominate; the mood throughout is brooding, but there's a comfort to be found in his bummer of a comedown.
