Rod Stewart was already a household name by the time Foot Loose & Fancy Free was released, and that sense of comfort results in an uneven album. Sure, "Hot Legs" features an incendiary blues riff, and "You're Insane" masterfully blends funk and Stewart's youthful howl. But the singer's dreadful rendition of "You Keep Me Hanging On" does the album no favors, nor does the bloated "Born Loose," which desperately needs an edit. Not every one of Stewart's albums needs a "Maggie May," but there’s a reason why “Hot Legs” and “You’re in My Heart” are the only songs here to make the greatest-hits cut.
