Treasures From The Folk Den
Roger McGuinn
Released:
Aug 2001
Label:
Appleseed
In the mid-'90s McGuinn revisited the folk music of his youth, before he helped invent folk rock with the Byrds. For Treasures from the Folk Den, a batch of home recordings, he hooked up with fellow old-school folkies such as Pete Seeger, Odetta, and Joan Baez. Although much of this traditional fare has been recorded a million times before, hearing an approximation of what McGuinn must have sounded like before the Byrds is a total treat, especially on the mournful "Cane Blues."
