Build has a split personality that's beyond this polyglot band's usual "whirlwind tour of world musics" aesthetic. Things start out typically multi-culti, dipping and diving in and out of dub and cumbia, French cabaret and Gypsy brass (don't miss "No Olvidado," a caress of a song). But then we reach "Inheritance," with a hint of Irish folk and a whole lot of winsome, wispy adult-alt. And then there's "Like I Do" with its cutesy neo-Prohibition-era jazz. The whimsical singer-songwriter stuff is still charming, but it almost sounds like a different band finished the record.
