This Madrid-based ingenue sings in English and named herself after a favorite color of lipstick. Reason to love an artist? Not quite. But Russian Red (real name: Lourdes Hernandez) has a melodic sense that rivals any indie popster, as well as a girlish voice that routinely falls just this side of precious. After Hernandez hooked up with English musician Brian Hunt, the duo met producer Fernando Vacas, who convinced them to record their debut album, I Love Your Glasses. It was released in 2008 to universal acclaim -- including awards for Best Debut Album (Premios Pop-Eye) and Best New Artist and Best Alternative Pop Album (Premios de la Musica). Spain may have just birthed its first crossover artist.
