When you snap photos for Rolling Stone, you have access to a lot of celebrities. For Mark Seliger, who was trying his hand at songwriting for the first time back in 1999, taking photos provided the perfect opportunity to get some songwriting advice. When the advice comes from Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson and Jakob Dylan... well, you've just made the A-list. And when Jakob Dylan offers up his very own recording studio, you know you've made a friend. In 2003, Seliger and company released their debut effort, Broken Promises, which guest-starred the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow and Gillian Welch. Although he was lauded for his sharp ability to tell stories, it took five years before Ryko picked up the band. In 2008, he cleaned up the songs on Broken Promises, swapped in a trio of new songs and added a bonus DVD, and re-released it under the title Luck's Changing Lanes.
