This album focuses on modern-classical settings for the saxophone. The earliest composition is the title track, written in 1989 by Franco Donatoni. Ensemble Dal Niente takes care of the bouncy chamber complexity, while Muncy's playing proves to be dexterous fun. Despite its title, Anthony Cheung's "Refrain from Riffing" also features show-stopping moments for the saxophonist (and for Ben Melsky's harp). "Strohbass," a sometimes whispery but always gripping piece by Marcus Balter, sees Muncy paired off with flutist Claire Chase (whose Density also features music by Balter).
