Sammy Price (Evasion 1978)

Jul 2011

Biography

Order up a draft beer, roll up your sleeves, light that stogie, and sit back while Sammy Price gets to work on the piano. An important part of blues and early jazz piano, Price also helped put plenty of rhythm into what would develop into Jump Blues and R&B. His own jaunty but emotional style worked with just about everyone, and in 1938 he became the house pianist for Decca, the biggest record label during the Swing era.
