A summer featuring a Lillith Fair tour and a new Sarah McLachlan album. Wait -- what year is this? At first listen to the singer-songwriter's seventh album, it might as well be 1998. Which is not entirely to say McLachlan's sound is dated (though that also wouldn't be entirely untrue) or that she's not doing anything new. In fact, Laws of Illusion layers trademark shimmering-keys-and-dramatic-vocals sound with some pleasant new tricks, like a male chorus on "Illusions of Bliss" and a theremin descant on "Changes." But mostly, she's continued to polish what's become a classic sound.
