Released: Jan 2003
Label: EATURMUSIC/RED INK
This fifth studio release, which won a Norwegian Grammy for Best Metal Album in 2002, may have divided black metal purists due to its perceived "accessibility." But although it's sung entirely in English and there are defined hooks, Satyr still sings like his skin's on fire, and the guitars make for a glacial wall of noise. "Fuel for the Hatred" and "Suffering the Tyrants" may be the catchiest black metal songs of all time, but that doesn't mean they aren't fun as all get-out and, really, they just sound more like Pantera than Darkthrone. And Pantera rules -- everybody knows that.
