BiographyScala formed in '96 with past members of the hazy Ambient Dub outfit Seefeel, and the darker, experimental electronic leanings of one-man show, Locust. Scala put a stronger focus on song structure than either of the previous bands and included the spaced out vocals of Mary Peacock. Mark Van Hoen, aka Locust would provide the loud, grinding noise with which the ex-Seefeel members could lay down their spiralling soundscapes. Each release seems to have gotten darker and edgier, gradually drowning out the vocals with scratchy, jagged guitar loops. The entire package is one that contains a twitchy, spastic energy while being relentlessly beautiful.
